What is an eBook?
An eBook is a book in electronic form. You can download eBooks to your computer or eBook reader.
How do I identify an eBook?
eBooks are marked with this symbol. Available eBooks have a blue symbol. If the symbol appears grey, this book is not available in electronic form.
How can I purchase an eBook in the Peter Lang bookshop?
Register as a new customer on the home page under «Register now» at the top right. Please enter your personal details in the required fields. Customers who already have a login, should register via the form fields using their e-mail address and password. Place your desired eBook in the shopping basket and finish your order. A purchased eBook will be listed in your customer profile under the section «Your files». You can edit your profile at any time by logging in and obtaining an overview of your previous orders.
Would you like to purchase an eBook that is not yet displayed as being available in electronic format?
We can clarify the availability of titles marked with the corresponding symbol next to the shopping basket. Simply click on "order enquiry eBook" and send. We will check your enquiry straight away and let you know if and when the eBook will be available for download.
Is it possible to purchase an eBook for third party?
You can also purchase e-books on behalf of or for other persons. In this case, the "for personal use“ box in the shopping basekt should be unchecked and a valid e-mail address for the recipient should be provided. A new account will be automatically created for this person. He/she will receive an e-mail to activate the account as well as a notification that the eBook can be downloaded via his/her account.

You can purchase eBooks with multi-user licences for this purpose. eBooks with multi-user licences can be purchased through our online shop by ticking the corresponding option.
How can I read eBooks?
Once you have downloaded an eBook, you can read it directly on your PC. Alternatively, you can transfer the eBook to a portable reading device, an eBook reader. The eBooks are supplied in PDF format (and ePub if available). To read PDF files, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. An eBook reader is a portable reading device on which the eBook is displayed. Various units are available for purchase from different manufacturers. The readers are available from electronics stores or bookshops.
Which eBook formats are available?
You will only receive a PDF-file when you download an eBook. Please note that the search ability in special characters (eg Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew characters) can be limited.
Do I need an eBook reader?
No, you can also read the eBooks directly on your PC.
Can I read eBooks on different devices?
Once you have downloaded the eBook, you can copy it to different devices. The files are provided with a „soft“ DRM. This means that that the files can be copied to any type of device without restriction. To determine which formats are suited to your e-book reader, please consult the user instructions of your device.
What is „soft“ DRM?
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It is employed to protect a file against unauthorised distribution and sale. With this type of DRM, the file is provided with a watermark. This means that the file licensee can be identified at all times.
Can eBooks be printed out?
There are no restrictions on printing the eBooks supplied by us. You can print out your eBook as often as you like.
Do I have to be online to read eBooks?
No, you do not need to be online to read eBooks. Once the download is complete, you can read your eBook offline.
Can I exchange my purchased eBook?
In law, eBooks are considered to be non-exchangeable and non-returnable goods owing to their electronic form.
What are the advantages of eBooks?
Once you have paid for and downloaded the desired book, you can access it immediately and do not have to worry about delivery times. You can search the book by keywords.
